The researcher predicts the correlations of vocabulary with context, vocabulary without context and reading comprehension mastery of the students from Grade Eleven at Tarsisius Vireta Senior high School in Tangerang. The research answers the following questions: (1) Is there acorrelationbetweenthe level of vocabulary mastery with contexts and the students’mastery inreadingcomprehension? (2) Is there acorrelationbetweenthe level of vocabulary mastery without contexts and the students’mastery inreadingcomprehension? (3) Is therea correlationbetweenthe level ofvocabulary mastery with context and without contexts to the students’mastery inreadingcomprehension? Thus, the research aims to find out how far vocabulary with context and without context mastery contributedto the students’mastery in reading comprehension.
The research proved that (1) there is a positive and significant relationship between vocabulary with context and reading comprehensionwith a correlation coefficientof 0,585which isclassified as a relatively quite strongcorrelationand the determination coefficientof 0.343, which meansthat 34.3%of the score of reading comprehension is affected by the mastery of vocabulary with context. (2) There is a positive and significant relationship between vocabulary withoutcontext and reading comprehension with a correlation coefficient of 0,500and thedetermination coefficientof 0.250, which meansthat 25%of the scoresof the reading comprehensionare influenced by the mastery of vocabulary withoutcontext. (3) There isa positive and significant relationship between vocabulary with context and vocabulary without context together with reading comprehensionwith the correlation coefficientof 0.755which is classified as high and relatively quite strong. The coefficient of determination is0.592, which meansthat 59.2%of the scores of reading comprehension areaffected by the mastery of vocabulary with context andvocabulary without context. Consequently, the better level of vocabulary with context and the vocabulary without context mastery can contribute to thescores of the reading comprehension.
